The Australian public universities, as in Germany, normally have two semesters. The semester dates vary from university to university and from year to year. The following gives an approximate indication:

Semester 1:
begins:        approx. end of February/beginning of March
ends:          approx. end of May
Examinations:   approx. first two weeks of June

Semester 2:
begins:        approx. middle of July
ends:          approx. end of October
Examinations:    approx. first two weeks of November

In many but not all courses it is possible to begin in the second semester.

When planning do not forget that some time is needed for the recognition of previous studies. For example it is only meaningful to begin in the second semester if the German results which have to be recognised have already been completed by the end of the previous German Winter Semester.

Sometime (but not very often) there is an additional Summer Semester in the period December to February.
